Almighty God, creator of all things, you are the giver of life.

Today, in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, we are especially mindful of the fragility of life. We cry out to you for help. We realize our dependence on you. There is much we do know and yet so much more we do not know. We repent of our pride and self-sufficiency that makes us think we can do life apart from you. Forgive us for calling out to you only when we are in our deepest need.

Today we are saddened by so many that are affected by the COVID-19 disease that has spread around the world. We pray for, and lift up to you, families that have lost loved ones. We pray for those who are quarantined, for those whose livelihoods have been drastically affected.  Give us hope during these uncertain days.

We pray for all the health professionals around the world who are putting their lives on the line in order to love their neighbors. Protect them and guide their hands; give them strength and immunity as they fight against disease and sickness.

We pray for scientists who are seeking desperately for vaccines and cures. We pray for all those who study in order to alleviate the pain of others. Give these your wisdom and insights, that their efforts will bring about healing.

Guide all of our local, national, and world leaders that they might lead with integrity and determination, with openness and honesty. May the decisions that they make be guided by truth and understanding and by the power of your Holy Spirit.

In the midst of the storms of life, help us to persevere with faith that we, your church, might be bearers of hope and good news to those who lack faith.

Keep alive in us an awareness of your presence, with the knowledge that you are God and with you, there is great hope.  For you are our protector and our shield; a very present help in time of trouble.

So, we call on you to give us what we need as individuals, as a nation, and as a world. Bring healing to the nations; bring your peace to us in the midst of the chaos. Help us to know that our lives are always in your hands. We pray for all the people of the world that we might all humble ourselves and turn our lives to you.

Lord, you are the Almighty God, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the Great Physician, the Comforter, the Shepherd of your sheep. Bring your healing comfort to our lives.  Help us to put our trust in you.

We pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, by whose stripes we are healed.
