STATEMENT TO ST. JOHN MEMBERS (mailed out May 27, 2020)

In the midst of our ongoing challenges with COVID-19, we pray that all of you are staying safe and healthy and are finding the St. John online worship and other activities and resources a blessing and a comfort as we all physically distance for now.

All of you are aware that St. John is having some significant financial challenges at present and we want to thank all of you for continuing to mail in your pledges and offerings (or use our SecureGive online giving) as well as contributing to our ongoing “All In” supplementary campaign.  These monies are vital to help us support our staff, our facilities, and our ongoing ministry in the Augusta downtown area.   We wanted to let everyone know that St. John applied for the Federal Payroll Protection Plan (PPP) loan program through Synovus Bank and has received $61,072 as of May 1, 2020.

This 1% interest loan has specific restrictions and requirements for how the loan is spent.  One of the provisions of the program is designed to possibly convert all or part of the loan to a grant which will not require repayment.  Chip Matson, our Finance Committee chair, and our St. John administrative staff are working diligently to ensure that we meet the requirements for this conversion as the PPP funds are expended.  The PPP funds will help us pay some staff salaries and some of our facility operating expenses, but only for an eight-week period beginning May 1, 2020.

We thank God our church was provided the much needed PPP financial assistance, but it will not address St. John’s longer-term financial challenges.  That will still require meeting or increasing our current pledge commitments including the “All In” campaign and any additional donations and offerings we can receive for the remainder of 2020.

We ask that all of you continue to be in prayer for each other, our church, and our world as we continue to face the challenges of the pandemic together.  Stay safe and God’s blessings be with all of you.
